New sponge cloth production is inaugurated

04.30.2024

Just over a year after the ground breaking ceremony in 2023, Kalle GmbH will begin production of a new sponge cloth line at the Kalle Albert Industrial Park in Wiesbaden.

The 25 million euro investment will increase the existing production capacity by 40%. This will enable Kalle to meet the steadily increasing global demand for the versatile sponge cloths, which are made from a sustainable mix of cotton and wood cellulose.

"Our Kalle sponge cloth is a proven quality winner, and we already supply over 1/3 of global demand." Co-CEO Torben Müller, adding: " While our product is currently mainly used in the household or for professional cleaning, we entered new applications in the medical sector, sound insulation, in evaporation processes, satellite technology, automotive and even in bee breeding." The first sponge cloth ever was produced in Biebrich, Germany back in 1955. It is made from 100% renewable raw materials, is durable and is characterized by its high absorbency thanks to our 3D structure. During the production process, dedicated additives enable life cycle of our sponges through re-use and recycling (washable, efficient, and eco-friendly). A further development is the Fluisorb granulate, which is used as a sustainable alternative to binders made from synthetic fibers in the event of accidents involving operating materials. The consumer can recognize a Kalle product by its typical diamond structure Kalle itself operates exclusively as a producer and supplier in the B2B sector and supplies commercial and industrial customers worldwide. In addition to the production in Wiesbaden, where the company's headquarters are located, the conversion of the product such as cutting, punching, perforating, printing and packaging takes place in Germany, Chile and, most recently, in China.

"We are proud to sustainably strengthen Wiesbaden as a business location and to make theKalle Group fit for the future by using the latest technology," affirms Siegfried Weber, Co-CEO.

"Our thanks go to everyone involved who made the smooth commissioning possible in this short time and we look forward to delivering the first goods to our customers soon."
